Hemos tenido la grandísima suerte de encontrar a dos personas más que han querido compartir con nosotros su experiencia conociendo en persona a Peter S. Beagle. Vamos a empezar con Joyce Hazlerig que en el Festival Renacentista de este año (2010), celebrado en Texas, topó una vez más con este emblemático escritor. No os perdáis ni una sola de sus palabras porque su relato es de lo más fascinante:

At the Texas Renaissance Festival where I work as a Tarot and Palm Reader, I heard that Peter S. Beagle was coming there and I have had the good fortune to meet him in the past and was very excited to see him again. He and his works are very close to my heart. I love the Last Unicorn and I love all the other worlds he’s created; I’ve been very moved to hear about Peter’s legal difficulties… and whenever I get the chance to tell other folks about him I do.

En el Festival Renacentista en Texas [2010], donde trabajo como tarotista y hago lectura de mano, oí que Peter S. Beagle iba a venir también. Siempre he tenido mucha suerte de encontrarme con él y volvía a llenarme de alegría saber que nos reencontraríamos. Él y sus obras están en mi corazón. Adoro El Último Unicornio y me encantan todos sus otros trabajos literarios; también me sensibiliza sus problemas legales ... y siempre que tengo la ocasión de contárselo a otros, lo comparto.

Since do palm readings at the faire I offered to read Peter’s hand and he said I was surprisingly accurate. His calm presence and dignity touch me and he was very engaged during the reading.

Como en la feria también ofrezco lectura de mano, le pregunté a Peter si le importaría que leyese la suya y así lo hice. Su presencia calmada y dignidad me impresionaron y estuvo muy atento a la lectura y todo cuanto le estaba diciendo.

I was also thrilled to be able to show him the Last Unicorn sculpture I created out of wool and silk. He said the eyes were just the right proportion. I can’t tell you how happy this made me.

También estaba encantada de poder mostrarle mi escultura de El Último Unicornio, que hice de algodón y seda. Me dijo que los ojos eran del tamaño exacto. No os podéis imaginar lo feliz que me hizo.

I joked with him because he was drinking hot apple cider and eating a pickle. I mean the cider I could understand it was pretty chilly for Texas in Nov, but I looked at him and said “really?”nodding at the pickle and he replied “Don’t ask. I like dark beer and chocolate chip cookies too.” I love hearing him speak, he shared a few stories with me about his time playing music at a French restaurant.

Bromeé con él porque estaba bebiendo sidra de manzana caliente mientras masticaba un pepinillo. A ver, podía entender lo de la sidra aunque me parece un poco picante para Texas en noviembre, pero aun así yo le miré y le dije "¿de verdad"?, mirando hacia el pepinillo, y él respondió "Mejor no preguntes. Tambíen me encanta la cerveza negra con galletas con pepitas de chocolate." Me encanta oírle hablar, y relató varias historias de cuando tocaba en un restaurante francés.

This was a wonderful time for me, I brought several friends with me who had never met him before and I felt privileged to witness their first time with Peter. My first time meeting him I cried like a tiny child; he has that profound effect on me.. and he patted my hand and said that it was alright he’s a big crier too. The next few times I wasn’t so weepy, once I even managed a joke. However, I do believe this experience tops all the others.

Fue una experiencia maravillosa. Traje a varios amigos míos que nunca le habían visto y me sentí privilegiada por poder presentarles a Peter. La primera vez que le vi, lloré como una niña pequeña; tiene ese profundo efecto sobre mí ... me tocaba el hombro y me decía que me entendía, que él también era un gran llorón. Las otras veces no estuve tan llorona, incluso una vez conseguí contarle un chiste. Sea como fuere, creo que esta experiencia es la mejor de cuantas he tenido.
